A Beautiful Noise – The Neil Diamond Musical at Broadhurst Theatre

A Beautiful Noise will be showing live this season at the Broadhurst Theatre on Thursday 16th May 2024! The life and work of Neil Diamond is the subject of a brand-new Broadway musical. His greatest hits, including "Sweet Caroline," are all presented in the production, which will be performed by an outstanding cast under the direction of Tony nominee Will Swenson.

Overall, the show is an emotionally-charged, captivating and electrifying musical memoir that tells the remarkable true tale of how America's greatest hitmaker became a legend. It is uniquely set to the tunes that shaped Diamond’s career, much like The Carole King Musical before it.

The story follows an talented Jewish artist from Flatbush, whose family name is actually Diamond. As he grows up, he finds his feet as a performer at the Bitter End in Greenwich Village, immediately signs a record deal that comes back to bite him hard, and as years go on, he comes away from one marriage after another. "Amid all that, Diamond evolves into a globe-trotting, sequin-wearing, arena-playing star,” Broadway World shares.

According to previous reports, singer-songwriter Neil Diamond-Then will be played by Will Swenson, who most recently played in the Off-Broadway revival of Assassins. Neil Diamond-Now will be played by Tony contender Mark Jacoby, Robyn Hurder as Marcia, while Linda Powell is cast as the Doctor.

The creative team comprises Tony Award-winning director esteemed director Michael Mayer, highly acclaimed Anthony McCarten, and Critically acclaimed choreographer choreographer Steven Hoggett. The musical will have scenic design by award-winning scenic designer David Rockwell, lighting design by highly acclaimed lighting designer Kevin Adams, costume design by Tony nominee Emilio Sosa, and sound design by Tony Award winner Jessica Paz.

Essentially, The Guardian discusses that the show does not actually play by all the rules of jukebox theater. "It is initially a hit parade within a dramatic showcase of Diamond’s 1960s beginnings in the first act, which is subtly followed by a second act that is set of sequined, post-1960s concerts spliced with portraits of a broken marriage and lonely childhood, and then a denouement of hardcore emotional resolve,” the review continues.
